Bí Cineálta  - 10/02/2025
Dear Parents/Guardians,
The "Bí Cineálta" ("Be Kind") programme is part of the Irish Department of Education's broader initiative to address bullying in schools. The department has published "Cineáltas: Action Plan on Bullying," which outlines a comprehensive approach to preventing and addressing bullying in schools.

The Core definition of Bullying Behaviour:  Bullying is targeted behaviour, online or offline that causes harm. The harm caused can be physical, social and/or emotional in nature. Bullying behaviour is repeated over time and involves an imbalance of power in relationships between two people or groups of people in society.

Key aspects of the Department of Education's involvement in the Bí Cineálta programme include:

Developing the "Bí Cineálta Procedures": These procedures provide a framework for schools to prevent and address bullying behaviour. They are based on a child-rights approach and involve the entire school community, including students, parents, teachers, and staff.

Providing resources and support to schools: The Department of Education provides schools with resources and support to implement the Bí Cineálta procedures. This may include training, workshops, and online resources.

Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the programme: The Department of Education will monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the Bí Cineálta programme to ensure that it is meeting its goals.

The Bí Cineálta programme is a significant step forward in the Department of Education's efforts to create a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students.

Whole school community involvement is essential, therefore we are asking that  on Monday evening 10th of February you complete the anonymous 'Let's Talk' Pupil Questionnaire with your child / children and the Bí Cineálta Parent Questionnaire
We are giving a HOMEWORK FREE evening on Monday 10th February to give you time to complete this with your child / children and return before Tuesday 11th February.  Your family's contribution is important and really valued.  You will find links to Google forms below.

Finally, we are sharing a powerful video made by the teachers and students in Scoil Bhríde, Shantalla that outlines the powerful impact of young people's activity online. Please watch this video (See link below) and if you have children in senior classes we feel it could be worthwhile for them to view it too.

Website: Code of Behaviour & Anti-Bullying Policy is on our website under the 'Enrolment' tab. We were heartened by the 122 responses - 67% of families who voted last year in favour of "Keeping Childhood Smartphone Free Agreement," which can also be seen on our website as well as further information for parents.
